Interested in starting your entrepreneurial journey in personal development, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Artvine Torossian, founder of Karaka, from Boston, MA, USA.

Tell us all about your business...

Karaka is a leadership and wellbeing brand. In Sanskrit, it means 'to cause Significance.' We've taken this powerful term and placed it on top of 4 pillars. Karaka's four pillars are LEAD, LOVE, LIFE, HEALTH. We lead workshops, programs, and wellbeing retreats for organizations, communities, and groups. We have been instrumental during the pandemic, from inspiring hybrid and remote teams to leading self-care workshops.

We are passionate about Staying True to Character, and by this, we mean, character strengths of each individual. Our consulting methods for leadership and wellbeing will always have the following components: Character Strengths, Mindfulness and Heartfulness, Collective Significance, and WholePresence lifestyle.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?

Karaka was created at a very transformational stage in my life. An actual unique creation based on holistic existence and stay true to me. Creating the pillars was an insight based on my time leading a change and self-care to know that we are who we are no matter which pillar we are working on. Who you are in the LEAD pillar is the same being in the LOVE, LIFE, and HEALTH pillars. Given that you lead with your character strengths and STAY True to those Character Strengths, you will achieve an overall sense of well-being and teach others to do it too.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment I can continue to bring is being my true self in my relationships, both in business and personal. I thrive and nurture authentic relationships. This is a unique accomplishment that happens daily.

In terms of the most significant achievement from the company, I believe our methods (trademarked methods) are to be highlighted here. They are as follows: Karaka®, Stay True to Character®, KarakaLEAD® Yourself, Collective Significance®, The WHOLE Alphabet™, Start From Spirit®, Restore Equilibrium™. Each one of these trademarked consulting methods is in our workshops, leadership talks and wellbeing retreats, and personal/professional development programs.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?

I've never been one to claim that I know it all. Never have and never will. The hardest thing about being a business owner, especially at the beginning of the entrepreneurship journey, is learning to manage mistakes.

Running trials, experimenting with the market, reaching out to different knowledge bases to run these trials and if leads to errors, understanding that you're in it for the long run, to dust yourself and get back up, with the least amount of cost associated with the errors and mistakes. I said all of this in a very long way. What I am saying is it's hard to learn to "trust the process." You have to master that (actually in every pillar, haha, adding my Karaka spin)...trust the process in every pillar of your life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

LEAD with authenticity; LOVE what you do; Keep HEALTHY habits and; It's a journey, like LIFE.
