What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is helping people look their best with services that focus on improving your skin with facials, peels, hair removal by waxing and dermaplaning, and semi-permanent eyebrows. My customers are from all walks of life who want to enhance or restore their beautiful faces.
Tell us about yourself
I have always had an interest in beauty and skincare, starting as a pre-teen who wanted to wear makeup and dress up. Academics were always a struggle, and I wanted to be more involved on the creative side, where I excelled. I love helping clients look their best and resolve skin problems, correct overplucked eyebrows or bad microblading, and just pamper them with a relaxing facial. Seeing their smile when after their appointment and having them book another appointment with me gives me great satisfaction.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Opening my own salon and seeing it flourish with amazingly loyal customers. I have had clients come to me for years and refer friends and family.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Having confidence in yourself and overcoming your fears. It is scary starting out on your own. Yes, you have the freedom to set your own pace and be your own boss, but there is no safety net. Your paycheck and the ability to pay your bills and keep your customers satisfied rests entirely on your shoulders.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be patient. It is going to take longer than you think and cost more than you planned.
- Have confidence in yourself. If you are not, it shows through. Self-doubt is your biggest enemy.
- Rely on others. While you want to do it all yourself, learn from others with experience you don’t have. Most people are happy to help and get joy in seeing you succeed.
