Tell us about yourself
I am a strong believer in fate, but I also believe that we control our own destiny. After all, it was fate that brought me to the brownie business in the first place and destiny that brought me back more than five years later. While teaching in Cleveland, Ohio, I began baking brownies as a hobby. Eventually, a hobby was turned into a nationally recognized brownie company, and an elementary school teacher became a CEO.
Originally created in my family’s Cleveland kitchen while working as a school teacher, I baked and filled orders. As business soared and we outgrew our kitchen, Brownie Points evolved into a complete baking and manufacturing facility. Brownie Points is and always will be a labor of love Nothing worthwhile comes easy, and each and every day brings a new challenge. I not only bought back a company, but I also gained a new life, new perspective, and independence, and I taught my children they could do anything they wanted. We appreciate everything we have and everything it took to get us where we are today. Never give up, and never take no for an answer. Adversity builds character, and it is how you overcome these adversities that can make all the difference. Remember, no means not now and maybe means yes, just not yet!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I never give up! Every business is a rollercoaster, and you have to survive the ups and downs while remaining optimistic. I know that I will never know everything. I surround myself with people who know more than me. I listen to them and value their expertise and their opinions.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balancing your life. Never lose sight of what really matters, and know that so many lives depend on you and your success.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Follow your passion and be persistent.
- Never lose your optimism.
- If you love what you do, you will do it better than anyone, and success is inevitable.
