Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Grace Brodeur, a performance coach, based in Old Saybrook, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help working professionals stop procrastinating. I teach time management and emotional management strategies to reduce overwhelm and improve how much gets done in a day.

Tell us about yourself

I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but it took me a while to figure out what type of business to build. A common path many entrepreneurs, including myself, take is helping others with a problem they've experienced. Watching my client's progress, hearing kind feedback on videos I put out, and being able to work under my own values - all these things motivate me to run my business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In under two years, I've built a community of over 250,000. It's a privilege to be able to reach so many people with a message that means a lot to me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think the hardest part is at the beginning, where there's this feeling of always having so much more to do while managing self-doubt. You have to build a great product or service from scratch, but you also have to learn general accounting/financials, marketing, sales, hiring, and all the necessary software. You just have to take it a day at a time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

For starting a business: If you're stuck in the phase of knowing you'd like to start something, but the fear is blocking you, write down what will happen if you never try. Writing this gave me the bump of motivation that kickstarted my business.

For running a business: As you make strategic decisions, always ask, "what is the clearest, most direct path." We often overcomplicate things, chase shiny objects, and overwhelm ourselves unnecessarily. Build what you need as you go.

For growing a business: Once you're above 6 figures, hire someone to help you with systems, operations, and team management. Without mastering these, you will be stuck in the weeds. With them, you will scale.
