Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Britta Gudmunson, a Voice, Visibility &  Leadership Mentor of Britta GreenViolet, located in Lake Bay, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm Britta GreenViolet, a leadership coach and creative mastery mentor. I help entrepreneurs, service providers, creators, and leaders develop a prosperous body of work that's an expression of their souls. I help my clients to visualize their greatest gifts and activate their most powerful expression of creativity, prosperity, and sacred service.

Tell us about yourself

I'm an embodiment of many archetypes— teacher, guide, musician, singer, minister, mystic, creatrix, sacred disruptor, exquisite witch. I started as a holistic health coach and yoga teacher, then shifted toward music via sound healing, voice coaching, and co-leading a community choir with my beloved. After years of seeking a way to harmoniously weave my diverse gifts into one offering, I finally awoke to my true zone of genius, leadership. I am a guide for other leaders who, like me, are invested in their soul's evolution. What motivates me each day is taking delight in the paradoxical nature of life! I see it as my life's work to be with this marvelously complex tension— duality and non-duality, spirit and soul, grief and joy, creation and destruction— and to support others in doing the same.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm a published author and recording artist, both of which required Jedi focus and follow-through. But I think my greatest accomplishment thus far has been launching my yearlong mythic mastermind and leadership council, Metamorphosis. The curriculum is a dream come true and many years in the making. It's been profound to work through my own fears in creating and offering it and then to witness the transformation my clients are receiving inside of the work.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Consistency has been perhaps my greatest challenge. I am also a minister and travel quite a bit to offer healing and creative spaces for ceremonies and rituals, so my calendar is never consistent. I've learned a lot about submitting to the periods that feel less productive without beating myself up... and then seizing the opportunities when I'm able to take quantum leaps in my creativity and productivity. I'm a prolific creator, and I love it!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know thyself: identify your greatest strengths and gifts, then focus the majority of your energy there. Don't waste your time trying to get better at things you don't enjoy and in areas you aren't naturally inclined.
  2. Learn to manage your muse! There's no shortage of brilliant ideas. The real issue is always time and the allure of spreading yourself too thin. Accept that you cannot do it all, and go all in on the ideas that truly, deeply light you up.
  3. Become a pro at asking for help, and don't think twice about investing in yourself. Even the most masterful athletes, leaders, and high-performers have coaches and mentors. When you invest in yourself, not only will you build your skills, but you'll also expand your confidence to be able to ask others to invest in your services! I call it divine reciprocity, and you only learn to embody it by walking through the fire.
