Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jaylene Jeanpierre, Founder of Brim and Bold Creative, LLC., located in Orlando, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm the founder of a boutique branding and website design studio that helps entrepreneurs and businesses effectively communicate with their audience, break through fear and engage authentically, unapologetically, and creatively in any space. We focus on developing full brand identities that are flexible and responsive. Education is an important part of our process. Once we’ve created purpose-driven brand identities, we teach our clients how to effectively use their branding to amplify their message.

We love helping clients in different industries and at different stages of their business, all with an overall connection of having a positive impact on the world. We are big on helping change-makers tell their stories and impact others in a positive way. We value collaboration and accessibility. We want our clients to be seen, heard, and felt.

Tell us about yourself

When I started my business, it was a collision of time, space, and necessity. I had just had my daughter, and as a mom of two (now 3) that was on the other coast away from family, friends, and the career that I started before getting married, I was really lost and honestly feeling purposeless. I decided that I needed to figure out what I wanted to do, what I was good at, and what I could learn. I love problem-solving but struggled to cast a more narrow net. So after exploring my options and going back to delve into my first love in college, graphic design - I fell head over heels for website and all things branded.

I am enamored with the curious, authentic, and loyal relationships that people develop with brands. As a self-taught website designer and developer, I rise each day to create something new and figure something out. That’s what motivates me every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been working with the Open and Online program with the Queens Chamber of Commerce to help small businesses affected by the pandemic stay open online. Brim and Bold Creative Studio was able to help over 130 businesses by building websites to help them shift their business online.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balance, or maybe maintaining the allusion to balance, haha. We wear all the hats and are constantly working in and on the business to cultivate something magical. Being a mom and wife and growing a business is a tough feat.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

It’s hard to have just three. But, I would say:

  1. Invest in your why. Create a strong foundation about what’s motivating you, your process, and your brand identity, and know what makes you different.
  2. It's okay to take your time and take a step back. Often we have an idea, and we want to push it through without really processing the importance, cost, and outlook.
  3. Have fun with whatever angle, position, or idea you have. Running a business takes a lot; carve out the joys that really make it worthwhile and keep that in your head for whenever stress or fear creeps in.
