Tell us about yourself

I have always been an entrepreneur from a very young age, always dreamed big, and wanted what I saw was an option to have in this world of existence. I never wanted to settle or limit myself to anything by putting a restriction on it, so I was always ambitious and determined to work hard and stick to whatever venture I was tied into. I have owned several businesses thus far in my life and have not once failed in any single one of them because I put my energy and hard work into developing them into success. Coming from nothing gave me a path to making sure I never quit and only worked harder since I had no one to ever fall back on. Failure was NEVER an option for me by any means. Brilliant Scents came about because I saw a path to a market that was open and growing rapidly, and with hard work and ground-up resources, I was successful in putting this successful project together into what it is today. Brilliant Scents still has a lot to do in the space and big shoes to fill; however, we are rapidly growing over several hundred percent per year in the YOY business. Brilliant Scents is just starting to scratch the surface and is coming into the space hard and heavy ready to show consumers not only what a good quality must-have product we have but also top-notch customer support behind the brand. I look forward to what the future holds for us at Brilliant Scents.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

That I never gave up and always pushed through any and all obstacles. It's just like anything else in life, whether sports, a relationship, or health; if you continue practicing and working hard at it, results should and will follow. My biggest accomplishment has always been my heavily ambitious personality and drive to prosper in anything I involve myself in.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Making sure to not always want to be in control of every task and duty in different areas of the company. I used to hire employees for certain areas of my business and still do the work for their position because I always wanted to make sure it gets done how I want it to be done. I learned that if you train the right person and they actually have the drive to grow with your business and learn what they need to do, then the task is their responsibility to tackle and takes the pressure off your plate. If you see the job isn't getting done right, then you know they are not the right person, and then you search for the right person until you find one.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do not think that you will be profitable immediately. Most businesses take years to grow profitable, but if it is a passion of yours to own a business you are running, then make sure you have what it takes financially to allow it to grow until it holds its own weight; otherwise, that will lead to tough times and tough times are only problems.
  2. Study the space you're looking to enter THOROUGHLY and or bring the experience you have access to into the industry you're looking to start in. You have to master the craft and always look at the space you're in and try not to better it but bring creative new solutions into it to stand out. Most businesses have competitors, so study the industry and creatively seek to bring solutions your competitors do not offer that your customers can take advantage of and or find useful to their purchasing experience with you over the competitors.
  3. Work HARD, don't think for a second that anything less than working hard will move you and your business forward. If you think you're going hard, go harder. When you're going harder, keep going!
