Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brietta Leader, Owner of Embody Center for the Healing Arts, located in Sandpoint, ID, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Embody Center for the Healing Arts is a boutique-style studio that hosts dance-based movement, yoga, wellness packages, massage, shamanic work, and more! We cater to our local Sandpoint community, along with Coeur d'Alene and Spokane clients.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up as a dancer and discovered my path as a healing artist while traveling in Asia in 2001. I was ready to travel and learn a new trade, and the trip enlightened and supported my transformation. Upon returning, I started my business called Moondance Movement and Massage. Over the past 22 years of teaching, I have offered children's dance programs, worked with special needs groups, co-created NW Yoga Feast, directed the Gypsy Diva's Dance Troupe, and taught countless hours of dance-based movement. It is my passion to continue to learn about the wisdom of the body and feel an ongoing devotion to the ancient art of dance.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment is the birth of my own trademarked movement form I call WildCore™ Movement. WildCore evolved from not only my time on the dance floor studying but my extensive background in global travel and apprenticeship to Mother Nature. Recently, I published my first book called 'WildCore: 12 Keys to Unlock Your Untamed Expression', which describes in vulnerable detail the pathway to my wild core.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is the variable income each month. Entrepreneurship asks me to continue to build trust in the universe and acknowledge that everything is in flow. Whenever I let stress lead, everything is difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure your heart has a big 'Yes.'
  2. Know your strengths and weaknesses, so you can ask for support in certain tasks.
  3. Start slow, build your foundation, keep a low overhead, and do your best.
