Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Calley Hewes, Co-Owner of Brazen Coaching for Women, located in Portland, ME, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I specifically work with women business owners or side hustlers that want to find realistic ways to ensure that they're supporting their health and happiness. Self-care for business owners is so crucial because burnout is a very real and ever-present issue - particularly for women.

Tell us about yourself

From my background as a functional wellness nurse practitioner, I am really passionate about helping women realize that small changes can have a profound effect on their well-being and happiness, as well as their businesses.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I love being able to see women make real progress in creating a life of balance while still achieving their biggest business goals.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Practicing what I preach. I often tell clients that "you can have it all, but you can't do it all." I have to remind myself that it's okay to skip the laundry and prioritize self-care sometimes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make self-care a part of the business from the beginning. When you're establishing your work culture, factor in your wellness priorities.
  2. Pay attention when you slip into people-pleasing mode - this can be especially draining and doesn't really benefit your business. Stay true to your goals and vision.
  3. Set healthy boundaries from the beginning - this will preserve the love you have for your work but also ensure that you and your relationships survive the business crunch times.
