Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Astaraee, Owner of Brax Jewelers, located in Newport Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Brax Jewelers in Newport Beach, CA. We specialize in custom jewelry designs, engagement rings, outstanding customer service, and professional guidance. We've been building relationships with thousands of customers ranging from experienced jewelry buyers to those just entering the jewelry world since 2005. Our core business values are serving our customers with the highest level of satisfaction and creating the most pleasant experience possible.

Tell us about yourself

Initially, I received my bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, but my passion for artistry, fashion, and design motivated me to continue my education and become an A.J.P. (Accredited Jewelry Professional), where I acquired my degree from GIA (Gemological Institute of America). I prioritize creating meaningful, life-long relationships with my clients, as they continuously inspire me and my business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Becoming a mother of two ignited my passion for children's rights and awareness. Through the success of my business, I was able to establish the Brax Girl Foundation. Brax Girl Foundation is a non-profit organization working to support and empower women around the world, primarily through education. The success of the Brax Girl Foundation is, without a doubt, my proudest accomplishment as a business owner.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Although I enjoy most aspects of my job, it can be difficult always to make tough decisions. My least favorite duty would have to be letting my own employees go; ultimately, don't serve my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always stay up to date and utilize the latest technology if you can.
  2. Have a structured and organized system in place for your business to ensure efficiency and productivity.
  3. Don't try to do it all yourself. Collaborate and make use of others' talents!
