Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrew Cohen, Founder & CEO of Brainscape, located in Brooklyn, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Brainscape helps anyone triple their learning speed using smart flashcards.

Tell us about yourself

I created Brainscape as the product I wanted for myself to study foreign languages. Once I realized the spaced repetition system could be used to learn just about anything faster, I went back to grad school, got a Master's in Education Technology, and made it my life's mission to optimize learning.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building a world-class team of people similarly obsessed with advancing human development

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Not moving as fast as your vision continues to grow!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Tell everyone about your plans. Don't worry that someone will "steal your idea." The feedback and introductions you'll get are much more valuable.
  2. Don't compromise on Team. No hire is better than a mediocre hire. Keep looking.
  3. Go as far as you can before raising money from outside investors. Funding does not solve anything; it only accelerates momentum.
