What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have two businesses. A Goal Getting Journal and Holistic Fitness Online Training. Both are for high-performing people who want to achieve their goals without burning out. The Goal Getting Journal is a 12-week journal that helps high performers get their goals without burning out. The journal includes evidence-backed habit build techniques like habit stacking and cue, action, and reward to help you stay focused without feeling exhausted.

The Goal Getting Journal is the perfect tool for anyone who wants to achieve their goals without burning out. Tell us about yourself.

I'm Lori. I got into fitness when I was 14 and started coaching gymnastics. I loved seeing people grow and achieve their goals. In uni, I studied biomedical science in college and quickly shifted gears. I moved into corporate America (well, New Zealand). I had natural entrepreneurial traits, and I hated the idea of being stuck in a 9-5 job. I also found that my team members who were underperforming typically had literal or perceived mental and physical issues.

So, I studied psychology, fitness, yoga, and meditation to understand human fulfillment. What I found was that there were a lot of parallels between corporate America and the fitness industry. People were unhappily treating their jobs and their workouts like a grind and forcing themselves into burnout.

That's when I created holistic fitness workouts and the goal of getting a journal to help people achieve their goals without burning out. My mission is to help people find internal happiness and fulfillment through fitness. I'm motivated to do what I do to make fulfillment a little less overwhelming for people.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was publishing my goal of getting a journal. While I have created many digital products, the feeling of holding a creation of yours in my hands is unreal.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The growing pains. When you show up as a new version of who you are, you'll make others uncomfortable. If like me, you like others to be happy, it's easy to give up on your goals to appease others. The truth is, many people are friends with you as the current version of you, and it's painful for them to see you grow.

This is true in business, fitness, or any other area of your life. Moving from a safe job to crazy business ideas didn't make sense to many I loved, and it was a challenge to stay focused on my goals instead of living a past version of myself that made others comfortable.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Execute ASAP. The sooner you execute, the sooner you make mistakes.
  2. Fail fast. View those mistakes as learning opportunities and make adjustments quickly.
  3. Be the dumbest in the room. Surround yourself with people smarter, quicker, and kinder than you, and watch your life transform.
