Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patrick Boyer, Owner of Boyer CPR/FirstAid, located in North Attleboro, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Boyer CPR/FirstAid is a small business specializing in CPR and first aid training with the goal of providing the community with the skills necessary to be able to act and make a difference in the event of an emergency. We believe in training and practicing our skills, knowing that when the time comes to use these skills, it will not be the time we choose, but we will be ready. To make our services more accessible, we also offer to travel to businesses and groups.

During our classes, we will cover vital skills such as how to manage an emergency, adult, CPR, use of an AED, relief of choking, the use of emergency medications, general wound care, and stop bleeding procedures. We also offer courses in pet CPR and First Aid to teach you the skills to protect your cats and dogs. Please take a look at our website to see everything we offer, and let us know how we may be of service to you or your business!

Tell us about yourself

I come from a career in emergency medical services with a passion for helping others. I am motivated by my strong belief, which comes from my years of experience, that the more we are all prepared to act in an emergency situation, the better outcomes we will see overall. We never choose when bad things happen around us, but we can choose to be ready to act!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, I take pride in serving my local community and giving back. We endeavor to participate in and even start community outreach programs. We feel strongly about getting our educational programs in front of as many eyes and ears as possible.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Generating QUALITY leads. It's easy to talk to everyone about your business, but are you targeting your audience for the best chance to get results? Narrowing that down and then selling that audience on your offering can be extraordinarily difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow your passion. If you are not passionate about what you are doing, you have already failed.
  2. Realize that you are your own boss and are no longer committed to the 9-5; instead, you are committed to working 24/7. You have to live and breathe your business with passion at all times.
  3. Business is competition at its core. You have to have the confidence, and the ability, to prove that you are better than your competition. You will have to fight for every penny you earn, but at the end of the day, if you are following your passion and bettering yourself and your business every day, you will succeed.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being your own boss and running a business is one of the most stressful and taxing things you can do, especially at first, but as long as you are following your passion and love what you are doing, it's the best life you could possibly live. It's the freedom to follow your passion and a commitment to share it with the world in a way that will leave the world a bit better than before. Stay humble, keep committed, and never stop adapting!
