Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in boutique gyms, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stephany Esmay, the founder of PraxisFit, a boutique gym in the US.

Tell us all about your business...

We are a small boutique gym that specializes in small group adult personal training, group fitness and youth training. Our members are truly a community of people that are looking to look, feel and move better. We focus on functional movements which help you live an active life outside of the gym. For our youth programs we help kids become better athletes through programming that includes strength, power, agility and speed. We are very lucky to have such an amazing member base that supports one another not only in the gym, but relationships are developed that also expand outside of the gym.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?

My background is accounting/finance which I did for over 20 years. I just wanted to contribute more to my community and I have always loved fitness.

One of the hardest things for most people to do is walk into a gym, especially if you are just beginning your fitness journey. I wanted to create a unique gym that made you feel welcome and safe. There is no better feeling than watching someone start hitting their fitness goals and the same holds true when our youth athletes get stronger and find success in their sport.

As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?

I'm not sure I have accomplished all that I would like to, but I am very proud that my vision to have a gym that is truly a community of people that are genuine, kind and funny is something that fills me with joy! We work hard, but we laugh and smile a lot.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?

Finding ways to share the importance of our health and making it a priority in our lives. There is no magic pill that you can take, but when you put in the work, the benefits to your mind, body and your family is remarkable.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

1. Find a mentor and someone you can get advice from on a business plan, target demographics, pricing, competitors, etc.

2. Hire people that have the passion that you have, but that are way smarter than you :-)

3. You have to really work hard to get your name out there in the community. I am a shy person and this has been a big challenge for me to put myself out there.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I'm passionate about fitness for men and women, but I really want mom's to prioritize themselves because when they feel better, the entire family benefits and our hard working moms are definitely worth getting an hour to focus on themselves.
