What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business specializes in lifestyle medicine and health and wellness. I offer a variety of services, including private physical therapy, nutrition counseling, Pilates, and one-on-one personal training/fitness.
Tell us about yourself
I was tired of working for hospital systems that abused us therapists and burned us out, amongst other things. I always wanted to have my own health and wellness practice one day because I did my undergraduate degrees concurrently in Kinesiology and Human Nutrition, and instead of doing my internship to become a registered dietitian, I went to post-graduate school to complete my Physical Therapy degree and then years later my clinical doctorate.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Full practice in 2 years and debt free the entire time.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Getting set up for billing Medicare and understanding their system.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Save before you start to avoid debt. Avoid a lease if possible to save significant funds. Be patient. Word of mouth is number one for referrals, so always provide quality and professional, courteous care.
