What's your business, and who are your customers?

Bonfire is a talent accelerator for women on the rise. Our customers are companies and organizations around the world committed to equipping women with the tools they need to lead.

Tell us about yourself

I am a strategist at heart, born to design the launch and early flight path of big ideas — ones that make the world more beautiful, more enlightened, more equitable, or more sustainable.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have launched 7 ventures and sold 2 of them, but the one that makes me most proud is the business I'm leading right now with my longtime business partner, Suzanne Muchin: Bonfire Women.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing optimism with realism. If you tip too far toward optimism, you're not paying attention to the danger signs ahead. If you tip too far toward realism, you lose faith.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stop waiting on someone else to bet on you. Bet on yourself.
  2. Find people (preferably a partner) who share your worldview and values but whose gifts and tendencies differ totally from yours.
  3. Create a culture where people can interrogate and innovate. That won't happen if you never reveal your vulnerability or open yourself to dissent.
