What's your business, and who are your customers?
Bombshell Creations Soapery LLC is a luxury artisan soap & skincare company that creates all products from scratch from my studio in West Chicago, IL. I offer a unique variety of gentle, fun & colorful, sustainably handcrafted products made with the best natural ingredients from reputable suppliers. Everything is made in small batches & with so much love to ensure the best quality. I believe that finding great skincare even for sensitive skin shouldn’t have to be difficult, unaffordable, or have ingredients that are impossible to pronounce. It is really simple, actually - Make the switch because you deserve to love the skin you’re in!
Tell us about yourself
Hi! I am Michelle, the one woman show behind everything BombShell Creations Soapery LLC. My business blossomed from the mix of me being an avid artist, my battle going through/recovering from cancer & my firstborn son (now second born) battling severe eczema. The trifecta became an eruption of entrepreneurial inspiration & PASSION. My colorful and creative soap-making not only became my happy artistic outlet for the darkness I was battling but also the cure to my son's skin condition. It leads me down this incredible journey of finding my greatest love of cold process soap making. Now I run a business creating soaps & bath goods with sensitive skin in mind that have a twist of creative artistry for all ages.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I’ve been dabbling in the soap-making industry for many years now but just only made my business official & launched my website two years ago, come September. I’d say getting past my fear of putting myself and my work out into the world and becoming known by starting a website & social media platform/following. Once I pushed past that fear, everything started falling into place for me and my business.
Right before I launched my website, I was asked and honored to be June 2020 ‘Maker Of The Month’ for a company called Brambleberry. I was interviewed about my soap-making business for the whole world to read - It was nothing short of magic. The company and its amazing CEO are my greatest inspirations to becoming the soap maker I am today. To be represented by people who helped steer me toward living my dreams is one of the most special moments that I am still in awe over!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Constantly staying motivated. I do EVERYTHING by myself while being a stay-at-home mom of two sweet boys. When they go to bed at night, I am up late working. I'm the designer, creator, planner, labeler, photographer, Social Media Networker, Promoter, Content Creator, and Influencer; I run my website & update my website, keep up with two consignment locations, do custom orders, my own packaging, shipping, package drop-offs, customer service, inventory purchases & counts…the list seems never-ending! It can become overwhelming at times, but lucky for me, I absolutely love what I do! I have customers who appreciate my hard work & I am a part of the best soapy community on social media. It makes it all worth it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don’t let anyone talk you out of what you love - If you are meant to do something, go for it!
- You must fail before you succeed. I still fail, but the failures help us grow bigger than we can ever imagine.
- Find your why & what makes you, you. What is your unique niche? Take it & run with it!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
You have to start somewhere. So just start. One day you will look back and see all the wonderful things you have accomplished/are accomplishing.
