Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Trude Larsen, Owner of Boligdama AS, located in Oslo, Norge.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a home buying consultant. My customers are all kinds of home buyers in Norway. First-time buyers, families, elderly people, and English speakers who want to buy property in Norway.
Tell us about yourself
In Norway, real estate agents work mainly for the benefit of the seller. I am also an educated realtor but work as a part representative for the buyer. This is very new in Norway, even though 80% of the population own their own home. I want to make a better balance between seller and buyer by writing my blog about home buying and offering home buying consultant services.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have managed to keep my business going for seven years now and become a voice for the home buyers in the home buying market. The big corporations for the realtors who are selling properties are very dominating in media and among the public. I am proud to be a voice for home buyers. And, of course, helped a lot of people to buy their dream homes.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
After having a lot of leading positions in companies and projects, it was very hard to stand alone with no income. To start from the bottom with a totally new concept in the market was a big challenge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe in yourself and your concept.
- Be patient.
- Use at least 25% of your time on marketing and acquiring new customers.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I am happy to create a new service and be able to help a lot of people with their biggest investment in life. In Norway, housing is something everyone is interested in, and I really think I am doing something very useful for people. That is a good feeling. I am sure my business is a concept for the future and in some years more people will have the same job as me. And work for the benefit of the home buyer.
