Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Luanna Singh, founder of bodybylulu, located in Miami, FL.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner of bodybylulu. I graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelors in Marketing and from the Fashion Institute of Technology with an Associates in Merchandising in 2007-2012. I was a former Miami HEAT Dancer in 2007-2010. I started my professional fitness journey in 2016 about 18 months after giving birth. Prior to my Personal Training certifications, I exercised because I hated my postpartum body which eventually led to the exact opposite. I learned to appreciate everything that comes with postpartum and I use social media to impact people, not to impress people. For every woman unhappy with her postpartum body, there is one wishing she had one. I started posting raw unfiltered images and stories about my journey.. the loose skin, the stretch marks, the cellulite.

Although my clients consist of both men and women ranging from 18 to 70 of all levels, the majority of my clients are postpartum women who are inspired by my transparency. I’ve taught them that it’s not about finding the right light or angle, it’s about finding the right exercise. In 2019, I moved my business completely online. Initially, I thought I was going to fail. I had to figure out how to get clients to their goals without ever meeting them, seeing them, or even talking to them! My exercise and nutrition programs were accessed through Zoom, E-mail, & WhatsApp only. One transformation led to another and hundreds of transformations later, my business tripled in only months… all online!

I have many roles at bodybylulu… I am the CEO, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Sales, Accounting, Social Media, Personal Trainer and Accountability Coach but my most important role is being a mother to my six years old daughter. If it wasn’t for her, none of this would be possible. I wouldn’t have had the same drive. I wouldn’t have had the same motivation. I wouldn’t have had the same goals. She is the sole reason I am in the Health & Fitness industry.

Tell us about yourself

My success is driven by my 5 year old daughter, Mia. I would not be in this profession if it wasn’t for her. I discovered a passion for healing postpartum bodies… a delicate and sensitive time for women who are experiencing both physical and mental changes.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My business, bodybylulu, is most known for being the healthiest version of yourself. I specialize in HIIT training, strength training, core training, and prenatal/postpartum training. I believe that food and exercise can either be the most powerful form of medicine or the slowest poison. My programs are offered both online and in-person ranging in length from 30 days to 12 weeks and more. They are results driven programs that have attainable goals. My nutrition guide is not about eating less, it’s about eating BETTER! The one thing that sets me apart from others is the accountability you receive from me on an individual personal basis. I check in with my clients often and I require them to do the same with me.

My tip to fellow business owners is you don’t build a business. You build people. And people build the business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

My biggest struggle of all was learning how to overcome my fear of Public Speech. It has always held me back in the past and prevented me from pursuing my goals. The global pandemic forced me to get out of my comfort zone and I had no other choice but to practice on Social Media when I could not reach people.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

3 tips I would give to fellow entrepreneurs is to be sincere, vulnerable, and relatable with your target audience.

I believe that the success of my brand comes from how honest I am. I don’t use social media to impress people. I use it to impact people. I’m not afraid to show them my flaws and people can relate to that.

Most of my business comes from Moms who feel the same way as I do. Being a parent is a challenge in itself, so a healthy nutrition and exercise plan could be overwhelming for some.

I’ve built a results-driven program for people to not only lose the weight, but keep the weight off in just 12 weeks. It doesn’t require hours in the gym or putting yourself on a restrictive unattainable diet.

My program teaches them more than just weight loss. It teaches them how to live a longer life. The food you eat can either be the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest poison. That couldn’t be more true! There’s a lot of illnesses and diseases that could be cured just by exercise and nutrition.
