Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rebecca Paul, Owner of Body Scrubs by Rebeca, LLC. (BSBR), located in Silver Spring, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Body Scrubs by Rebeca, LLC (BSBR) is a woman-owned and black-owned natural skincare company that offers a wide array of products that aid in the exfoliation, hydration, and rejuvenation of one’s skin. Our diverse clientele loves to nourish their skin with natural skincare products with ingredients they can pronounce.

Tell us about yourself

BSBR started in 2011 after I had a conversation about skincare with a childhood friend that shared with me the importance of exfoliation. I extensively researched natural ingredients that could help remove dead skin and help me with my own skincare concerns, that being hyperpigmentation. After getting laid off from my job, I started making body scrubs to supplement my income. I began selling the products to close family and friends, and their response was very positive. I was encouraged to start a business to sell my amazing products. Fast forward to 2023, I am motivated by the outpouring of support from my customers, family, and friends and the difference my products are making on people’s skin.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment thus far as a business owner is knowing that I am helping people improve their skin and that they trust me with my products. Having customers return to buy more is the greatest feeling and motivation for a business owner.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is sacrificing time with family and friends. Being a business owner is a 24/7 commitment. You are essentially married to the business. Even when you think you’re taking a day “off,” you’re really not. There is always something to do. However, with support and time management, the effects of that can be reduced so you can still have some time to do what matters most.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Success will not come overnight.
  2. Be consistent.
  3. Put your blinders on, stay focused, and don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Go at the pace that works for you. Think longevity.
