Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dani Richards, Founder of Bloom Yoga & Wellness, located in Walworth, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Bloom Yoga & Wellness symbolizes balance, resilience, and self-care. I offer mindfulness guidance, breathwork, yoga, and gratitude practices, all with a focus on overall mental wellness to relieve feelings of stress and anxiety. My customers are adults of all ages and abilities, teens, and athletes.
Tell us about yourself
Simply put, I just want to help people feel better! Our modern world doesn't always make self-care very easy to achieve, and social media has distorted what self-care really is, leaving many feeling that it's out of reach due to time and, even more often, financial restrictions. I once read, "Self-care is giving people the best of you instead of the rest of you," which has stuck with me! I started working on building my business in 2020, as the pandemic really set in, and many of us took stock on our lives and priorities. I realized the dream I'd had for nearly a decade to become a yoga teacher was in my grasp. My lifestyle before wouldn't have allowed me the time to invest in myself this way, but as we all dealt with a changing, slowed-down world, it seemed I finally had the gift of time.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I just recently entered into a contract with my local school district to provide occasional yoga and wellness services for its staff, and I couldn't be more proud. I'm on a mission to get more yoga in the schools -- both for students and staff -- because I know we all need these tools in our back pockets now more than ever.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I've found that you really have to be knowledgable in a lot of areas, far outside the scope of your specific training and passions -- you have to wear ALL the hats when you're a sole proprietor like I am. If it weren't for some loving guidance from wonderful people close to me who want to see me successful, I'd definitely be stuck!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Don't be afraid to put yourself out there; you are enough as you are! Ask for help! Be patient and compassionate with yourself -- everything takes time!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Whether you seek relief from stress and anxiety, physical benefits, emotional balance, spiritual growth, or something else, yoga changes not just the body but also the mind. I wish more people understood that! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share -- what an honor!
