Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Megan Delp, Founder of Bloom & Thrive, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My private practice, Bloom & Thrive, provides mental health services to clients who live in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maine, and Texas! We are a group of licensed professionals who all love our jobs. We're trauma-informed and work with our clients holistically, seeing their whole lives flourish through our sessions together!

Tell us about yourself

Currently, my husband and I live in Austin, Texas, with our two dogs, Olive and Walnut. Since moving here in 2021, we've met so many people who have inspired us to take risks and go for what we want! For me, that meant starting my own therapy practice. I knew I wanted to be a therapist since I was very young - I had a great elementary school guidance counselor who helped me build more confidence. Since that time, I've wanted to help others do the same. I love talking with people, learning about their stories, triumphs, and struggles, and working with them to build a life they love.

Additionally, I have started offering mental health consulting for organizations! Many of my clients struggle with their jobs, and companies who don't know how to bring mental health into the workspace make such a difference for employees when they do. Since starting my consulting work, I am encouraged by how many companies are looking to bring mental wellness into their corporate structure. Currently, I am working with my therapy clients as well as corporate clients to spread mental health awareness and education, and loving every minute of it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I started my practice in June of 2021 and was able to bring two new therapists on board in 2022! I'm proud of the growth we've seen, and I'm happy that so many people see the benefit of therapy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I definitely struggle with knowing when to call it for the day. I could work on marketing or networking from sun up to sun down if I wanted to, so I have to make sure I am giving myself space to be human outside of my business!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, I'd encourage that person to have a good strong community for support on the journey. My friends and family have helped me every step of the way with encouragement and creative problem-solving. Second, get a good team that takes care of the business aspects you find no joy in - accounting, digital marketing, and things like that. Focus on the part of the business that you do well and let other professionals handle what they do well. Finally, choose something you're passionate about because it takes up a lot of your time and energy. If you're doing something you enjoy or feel strongly about, that time and energy are well-spent. Bonus fourth tip - go to therapy if your business is stressing you out!
