Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jazmin Elon, Owner of Blk Sunflower, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Blk Sunflower started as a candle company during the pandemic to help people focus on the importance of self-care of the mind, body, and soul. In three short years, Blk Sunflower has grown into so much more, and now I use the success to help others achieve their dreams of being an entrepreneur. In June 2022, I launched Business Academy, where I help people start, elevate, and grow their businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a serial entrepreneur my entire life, and at the start of the pandemic, I saw an opportunity to use my time at home to start a business. I love the fact that every day there is a new problem to solve, and I have the ability to create my own destiny.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment so far is that I have been able to inspire so many people all over the world to believe in themselves and step out of fear to live out their dreams and start a business. I get messages daily from people letting me know how my story inspires them and asking for assistance. This is why I started the Blk Sunflower Business Academy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

With the fast growth of my business, I felt I needed to keep up with the demand, and that left me exhausted and no longer enjoying the journey. I had to learn how to balance work and taking care of myself. A brand that I built to teach the importance of self-care was taking over my life. I’ve learned that I don’t have to do everything right now, and many things can wait.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Know your why, and if you want to start a business just for money, it will not work. Outsource as you can afford it. Start small, maybe you hire someone 4 hours a month to do a task you don’t enjoy to work on the parts of your business you do enjoy. Then increase as your business grows. And always look ahead and be ready to pivot.
