Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in pet care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lauren Janis, owner of Big Daddy Biscuits, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Big Daddy Biscuits hand-makes all-natural and organic dog biscuits for the pups in your life. We also have a line of pet care needs. We love being able to offer a healthy dog treat option for the dogs in your life. We love being able to source ingredients from local Ga. farmers. Knowing where our food comes from and supporting other small local businesses. We make three different types of treats, so even the pickiest pups will surely enjoy them.

Tell us about yourself

I started making dog treats after having a conversation with my niece and nephew when I was looking for a job change. After they told me dog biscuits, the very next day, I went out and purchased a mixer and never looked back. We named the business after my dog, Big Daddy. Knowing that we are making a great daily dog treat and hearing from so many people about how much they love what we do sure helps us get up and motivated daily!!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been jumping into a field that we were not familiar with and succeeding as well as the consent support we have gotten from our local communities as well as all over the US that has purchased our products. As well as surviving the pandemic. It was very scary for us and so many others, and glad we are still standing and being able to treat the pups.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is making sure all the i's are dotted, and t's are crossed. There are so many levels of running a business, and at times, it gets overwhelming. Remember that you are human and forgive yourself if the ball is dropped.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research.
  2. Get a mentor.
  3. Ask for help.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We just want to thank everyone for the continued support of our little business. It helps to employ some amazing folks, and we get to meet the most amazing dog parents and their best friends.
