Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carlos Torrebiarte, founder of Biarte Specialty Products, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Biarte is a "roots to markets" business that offers specialty products from Guatemala. We source natural, top-quality products like specialty coffee, craft chocolate, and natural tropical wildflower honey. We reach our producers directly and take care of the importing process. Our customers are people who seek natural products, enjoy good quality, and are interested on where their products come from.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up at a coffee farm in Guatemala called Finca Santo Tomas Perdido. My family has been producing great quality coffee for decades, and I had always wanted to be able to tell our story and not be so far away from the people drinking our coffee. Biarte has allowed me to tell the story of my family and others that join our producer network. Being true to my desire many years ago, Biarte is set up as an importer, and we work together with the producers in order to be able to have a direct impact and tell their story.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating the brand image and working out the logistics.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part is managing every single aspect of the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Believe in what you are doing, keep track of what you do, and work hard.
