Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrea Halmy, Founder and CEO of BeYourBest4Success, located in Zurich, Switzerland.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder and CEO of BeYourBest4Success and a Leadership & Business Success Coach. My passion is to help women reach their full potential to achieve sustainable growth and success by keeping their balance. I believe in the power of thinking big and then taking small steps to make it happen.

We empower women to dream bigger, be braver and bolder and feel more confident in their role as leaders or entrepreneurs. Our clients are mainly female CEOs, startup teams, and entrepreneurs who want to actively create their future and the future of our society.

Tell us about yourself

Having my own business had always been in the back of my mind, but I never felt ready for it. As women, we often think more about all the reasons why we might fail instead of taking one step at a time. When you become an entrepreneur, you will make a lot of mistakes – learn from them and move on!

Being able to work with people on their business ideas, empowering women to start their own businesses, and seeing how startup ideas might help make our world a better place are just some of the things that motivate me every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Every day you keep pursuing your vision, and your goals is an accomplishment. Since the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, I have grown so much as a person and achieved things I had not even planned – like starting a podcast and becoming a startup mentor and coach, just to name two. I just said YES, when the opportunity presented itself.

I have also learned to accept setbacks and move on. I trust that when one door closes or stays closed, a better opportunity is just around the corner waiting for you. I do not believe in failure. My motto is: You've only really failed when you stopped chasing your dreams.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You are the one who is ultimately responsible for your business, and you have to make the hard decisions. Being an entrepreneur also means having to know about business development, sales, marketing, and finances; even when you outsource these tasks, you should have an understanding.

As business owners, we often try to do everything on our own – especially in the beginning – to reduce costs, but keeping a good balance in life is crucial for your success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a clear vision of where you want to go and why you do what you do, and be ready to pivot when needed.
  2. Stay true to your values and do not compromise them for short-term success.
  3. Do not try to do all on your own; surround yourself with people you trust and who would be a great asset to your business.
