Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Karen Kristjanson, Founder of Beyond Limits Coaching, located in Surrey, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I coach people who want to make changes that are important to them. They often feel "stuck" in some way, and working with me opens new perspectives for them of what is possible and helps them develop sustainable skills that get them what they are seeking.

Tell us about yourself

I have worked on change and how to make it work for most of my life. For many years I worked in groups and organizations, supporting managers to shift things in groups, teams, and organizations. About fifteen years ago, I changed focus to individuals with coaching, as I was impressed by how quickly small changes can be made with a skillful coach. I love seeing people understand their world, and themselves, in a new way and hearing them describe their early explorations of doing things differently. As we work together, I am listening with my whole being, offering them feedback, intuitions, and concrete exercises that will build new muscles in them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Learning to trust in myself that my skills and experience are worthy of others' attention and resources.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the unpredictability of demand is tough sometimes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be in a hurry to count on steady revenue.
  2. Choose something you are passionate about.
  3. Reach out for links with others on the same path.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am proud of my book on co-parenting after divorce, Co-Parenting from the Inside Out: Voices of Moms and Dads, which was published by Dundurn Press in 2017.
