Tell us about yourself
I have been a consultant dietitian for a number of years, and moving my business online was always a dream--for a collection of reasons. Then when the pandemic hit, an astonishing realization came to light. Who knew just how productive and preferred online meetings and learning would become? We were at the right place at the right time. We have created a fun and enabling environment to draw people back. Our aim is for people to be thrilled with their progress and look forward to success! We strive to enlighten people that lifestyle change does not have to be an impossible drudgery! Any lifestyle change, no matter how big or how small, counts, and perfection is unnecessary.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I suppose I was always conscious that I would be self-employed, coming from a childhood of numerous lemonade stands, spook houses, recycling pop bottles, etc. It can be both rewarding and fearful of being a business owner. I have accomplished the tenacity to keep evolving and the adaptability to work in a variety of nutrition settings. I do have the dream job!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
That would be wearing all the hats! As a small business owner, It is necessary to acquire a working knowledge of bookkeeping, human resources, marketing, networking, technology, etc.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a great passion for the business you are pursuing. You have to love it.
- Take a class on starting and operating a business to gain insight into your particular state and federal regulations.
- Create and follow specific policies & procedures and a budget. Avoid making exceptions.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Not everyone is designed to own and operate their own business. Don't be afraid to ask for help if it is available. Have access to a qualified CPA and a business attorney, especially if you have employees. Lastly and perhaps most important, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail!
