Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in publishing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrea Nash, Founder and CEO of Beverly Hills Publishing, located in Beverly Hills, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Beverly Hills Publishing. We are the first marketing firm, publishing firm, and PR firm in one. We are creating a media disruption in the $100 billion dollar publishing industry. My customers are thought leaders who are evolving their industry. They have created a proprietary process, a solution, or have intellectual property they want to protect and know that their book is more than just a book; it is their legacy.

Tell us about yourself

When I started my business in 2006, I became an author, and I wrote my first book in an industry that was very competitive. Everyone told me that I could never compete in health and fitness because there were so many large corporations that spent millions of dollars on advertising. Despite their remarks, I decided I was going to do it anyway because I wanted to help people. I put that first book out there, and in order to get traction and find an audience, I learned internet marketing. I never expected that Youtube was going to be bought by Google and that I would end up on the front page of Google for words that people were paying millions of dollars for. That's what allowed me to compete in such a competitive industry, and every time I would write a book, I would get press and publicity. I realized this was the best kind of advertising because instead of me just sharing my story, I had a book that was a newsworthy event. Later on, I made it to the cover of Women's Health and Fitness magazine, which is the number one fitness magazine in the world. It established me as a global authority in women's health. I created my own authority brand in one of the most competitive industries in the world.

Life brought trials, such as a devastating divorce, and I needed to then find a bigger purpose for my life and for my mission as an entrepreneur. That's when I realized I could become a publisher and serve others. The publishing industry is broken. It does not support authors with the marketing, promotion, or PR for their books that are needed. I realized I have an opportunity to take everything I discovered for myself and build my own authority brand and become a publisher for authors who are ready to make the greatest impact with their message. What inspires me every day is the power of books to allow the ability for humanity to continue to learn and grow. We must share evolution, enlightenment, and education, and I believe that authors are the visionaries and the solution solvers to the greatest problems in life. Supporting authors and bringing their message to their audience is one of my greatest joys. I love waking up every day knowing my company is making a difference in the lives of real people around the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is creating a disruptive business model in a hundred-billion-dollar industry. Most people would never have the courage or the visionary insight to play in this big of a game because they think that they could never compete with these multi-billion dollar companies. I was able to see it as an opportunity to serve authors who are not being taken care of. There is a need to create value, and by creating value, the business continues to increase its valuation and make a greater and greater impact.

We are touching lives that include the authors themselves in establishing their brand, which gives immense credibility, respect, opportunity, and revenue to grow their business and also continue the impact through the lives that the book touches. Every time we publish a story, it changes the author's life; it also impacts the audience whom the author is serving. So, that's what we are doing every day at Beverly Hills Publishing, and that's what makes growing of business so fulfilling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is that you're constantly challenged by people's limiting beliefs, and unmet expectations from past wounds are projected onto you. When becoming the leader in any industry, you are perceived as being strong enough to handle it. So as the head of a company, you have to constantly make time for your personal self-care. You cannot take anything personally when you are up to evolving humans, it's a messy game, and people can get triggered and get upset. When you hold the vision of the person having a greater life with more freedom and more opportunity, then it's worth it. You know that they are just encountering their own self-limiting beliefs that have been holding them back from greater prosperity.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My business advice is to be dedicated to the value you are creating. Yes, you need to have passion for what you are doing. But, you also need to be committed to constantly learning and growing as the market is evolving faster than ever, and that means business owners need to constantly be up-leveling their products, their services, and the value they're creating in the market or else they will become obsolete, and you will be one of the unfortunate statistics of failed businesses. Make sure you are committed and dedicated to constantly learning, growing, and evolving yourself.
