Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Annie Reynor, Co-Founder of Bespoke Beauty & Bridal, located in Brooklyn, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are an on-location hair and makeup beauty and bridal company. We aim to make you look and feel like yourself better than you can imagine. We don't change but enhance your beauty for your wedding day or special occasion. We also offer a full line of salon services in your home, as well as makeup lessons and production services.
Tell us about yourself
Bespoke is a team, I do the hair, and Erin does makeup, plus our freelancers. We have over 20 years of experience working with our craft. We met as friends and collaborated on portfolio building while working freelance; we came to discover that there is a need for our brand of 'Bespoke' beauty services in Brooklyn. We love to be a part of such a special and meaningful day as your wedding day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We started slowly, as new businesses do, but we grew quickly and began winning excellence awards from TheKnot.com and WeddingWire.com. We have dozens of great reviews from happy brides and are honored to have made them feel special and beautiful on their most important day, we currently book nearly 100 weddings in a year!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is the best thing; to be honest, it's the sheer amount of inquiries coming in, invoices to make, and schedule to do that requires a substantial portion of the day. It's all about customer service, responding with integrity in a timely fashion, and instilling confidence.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, Have a clear plan and stick to it; just because someone can't afford your services or wants to bargain shop does not mean you should lower your prices, we feel we have earned our rates, stick to your guns! Second, operate with integrity at all times, if something becomes impossible for me to do for a client, I'm adamant about saying so immediately. Lastly, respond in a timely fashion to all inquiries, we find so many companies do not even acknowledge an inquiry, we are the opposite.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
We love to make people look and feel beautiful. It's super satisfying when they look in the mirror and love the look, it makes working most weekends gratifying, fun, and fulfilling.
