What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a nonprofit called Because International. Our mission is to use products as solutions to alleviate poverty. We primarily do this through a product we created called The Shoe That Grows - a shoe that can expand 5 sizes and last for years. Our customers are any churches, organizations, and people who work with kids around the world. These partners are the donors and supporters of The Shoe That Grows.
Tell us about yourself
I first had the idea for The Shoe That Grows when I was living in Kenya 15 years ago. This idea has always been a passion for me. It has been an unexpected journey with this idea. Every day I am motivated to get our shoes to kids who need them because shoes are a small thing that makes a BIG difference.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am so proud that we have distributed 400,000 pairs of The Shoe That Grows to kids in over 100 countries.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There are many things that are difficult about being a business owner. But one of the hardest things is dealing with all the change. Once you think you have it all figured out - then something changes (or everything changes).
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't give up!
