What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a salon and spa in Buckhead, Atlanta, GA, that offers brow threading, full body waxing, facials, and more. We work with many celebrity clients, including Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Crystal Smith, to name a few.
Tell us about yourself
Funny story, I wanted to be a nurse, but when I first got to America. My first job was at a brow threading salon. I had no idea that I would end up falling in love with the business. This business allows me to improve people’s confidence by enhancing their beauty, and that is what keeps me motivated each day. Meeting different people every day from different walks of life is so fulfilling to me.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is being living proof that you can rebuild yourself after losing everything. A few years ago, I went through a very difficult time in life and lost a lot, but I was able to rebuild my business from the ground up during the pandemic, and to be standing here two years after the pandemic is truly an accomplishment. You can really turn your biggest failure into your biggest blessing.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is learning how to manage your work life and personal life. I often times forget to take much-needed time for myself, and that is truly important to anyone who is in business for themselves.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Three tips that I would give to anyone looking to start running and grow a business today would be to:
- ALWAYS have everything in writing. Pay attention to detail in contracts because you can avoid a lot of headaches that way.
- It is okay not to have it all together but always be hungry to learn.
- Do not be afraid to ask for help.
