Dance Tech and Talent - Beau and Kristin Foister

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Beau and Kristin Foister, Founders of Dance Tech and Talent, located in Kennesaw, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a well-rounded dance studio offering quality instruction in Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Tap, Ballet, Pointe, and Musical Theater to students ages 3-18 years old. Our goal is to provide an exciting and age-appropriate experience for whatever the dancer's skill level may be. We offer three tracks of dance to fit our dancer's needs: recreational, performing, and competitive. We pride ourselves on not only providing wonderful dance instruction but life skills as well - "Creating Better Humans Through Dance" is our motto!

Tell us about yourself

We both had invested our lives in educating, performing, and choreographing dance for studios all over the state of Georgia. As a husband and wife team, we felt it was time to step out on our own and build an influential dance studio to make OUR mark on the dance world. Seeing the growth and joy on the faces of our students is all the motivation we need.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building from scratch! We opened our doors eight years ago with only 23 students. Now we have six levels of performing groups in addition to our recreational dancers. We are proud to have built our studio to be a safe, fun, and rewarding environment for our students and dance families!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing multiple hats (instructor, choreographer, business director, scheduler, social media and website designer, event planner, and janitor...just to name a few - lol)! All while staying true to the art form that we love. - Oh, and personal time!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are passionate about what you start your business in. - It takes up a lot of your time, so make sure you love it!
  2. Invest in some business courses - if you do not already have a business degree.
  3. Stay true to yourself and your values.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Owning your own business is definitely challenging but so rewarding! We would not change it for anything! The world needs more small businesses, so let your light and talent shine through and make it happen!!
