What's your business, and who are your customers?
Beaming Health connects parents of children with autism with the therapists, dentists, pediatricians, and camps they need to be their best. We collect parent reviews, insurance information, and waiting lists in order to give parents a complete look into who the best options for their child are. We also publish expert-reviewed content and host an online community to get parents the answers they're looking for.
Tell us about yourself
I still try to talk with parents on a regular basis, and the biggest motivator for me is hearing how what we're doing is helping. We've now had dozens of parents who have asked if they could volunteer with us, which is a testament to how much of a need there is for this to exist.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'm most proud of the team and culture we've built. Beaming is not only a place to make a difference in the world but also a place where you can grow and bring your best to work. Our team is amazing, and I'm proud to call every member of our team a colleague.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of our advisors says that startups need to do twice the amount of work in a quarter of the time as established companies in order to survive. Every day counts, and there is constant pressure to show progress. The key is channeling this energy into motivation instead of stress.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with great mentors.
- Just because a few people tell you your idea will go nowhere doesn't mean it's a bad idea.
- Get good at storytelling. Success is so dependent on it early on.
