Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Stutz, Co-Founder of Beach Juice, located in Armonk, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have the greatest job in the world; I give people Beach Juice, most of whom are nowhere near a beach. We sell highly rated wine in a can and have a couple of different Vodka Lemonade ready-to-drink cocktails. What's amazing is our customer is anybody with a mouth that is over 21! If you were to look at Instagram, you might think our target audience is a set demo; the reality is we are selling a mindset, off the grid, in the moment, which appeals to more people than just a sliver of a demo.

Tell us about yourself

My wife would often say, " Hey, can you pick up a bottle of wine, " and I would head to the store to find the bottles in my price range...and simply pick the one with the best label, the coolest marketing. When we launched Beach Juice, we wanted to be in a can... in 2018, there were 10 cans on a shelf and hundreds of bottles. No clear winner in the cans space, and we set out to create a cool can with a good product! We also liked the can for its convenience of being portable at home and for on-the-go consumption. One of the country's largest wine buyers said, "Great name and great looking package...Trifecta with the 90 pt rating!
We have a fun product. It's fun doing tastings and having store owners, customers, and distributors say wow...this is good stuff!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My previous company was on the Inc 500 list in 2011 and named the 3rd fastest growing independent company in America with a 3-year growth rate of 17,744%. The bigger accomplishment is we stayed on that list for 4 consecutive years!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There is no safety net. You have to decide how long you are walking on that road! Obviously, there are lots of variables there. There are some serious hi's and some serious lows. You need to keep moving forward with all you got!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in what you got.
  2. Put everything into it.
  3. Have fun.
  4. Revisit 1, 2, and 3.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I think to be successful, you always need to (WIN) and to win = do what's important NOW!
