What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are not just a candle company, we are an experience. Our customer is the everyday hero who needs to be reminded to take time out for themselves because they, too, are worth celebrating through every mood and experience.
Tell us about yourself
Be You Candles launched in September 2020, at a time when the world had seemingly stopped. People were in need of positive energy and reassurance in their space, and my goal is to provide that energy with every candle burn. I am naturally a determined person, and I keep my energy high by living an active and healthy lifestyle. Exercising, eating healthy, and taking time for myself are big contributors.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was submitting my brand for trademark and receiving my Certified Black Owned certification from the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Accepting that you will not be financially successful in the beginning. Stay the course; it will turn around, and in moments of frustration, walk away and come back later.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Understand the niche you are in and master marketing; become the expert.
- Do not throw money into ads or random online "get rich quick" courses.
- Have a want to provide a service, treat people as human beings, have conversations, and build trustworthiness in your brand, your customers will genuinely come.
