Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelly Smith, Founder of Be Brave Coaching, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder of Be Brave Coaching. I’m a certified relationship coach, and I work with survivors of domestic violence, both men and women. I help them to work through past traumas and into healthy dating when they are ready.

Tell us about yourself

I truly love helping others. I’m a survivor of DV, and I had to face healing and learn the path of dating after abuse on my own. Once I began to heal from my abusive relationship, I vowed to help others in any way I could. I wrote both of my books so others would know my story befits they met me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has to say goodbye to previous clients. At some point, they no longer need my guidance, and they are good on their own. It’s bittersweet, but I’m so proud of the ones I have worked with, and I’m grateful they are in a better place in life.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The most difficult thing about being a business owner for me is finding clients who are willing to put the work in to begin the healing process. So many are fearful of healing, so they don’t.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The three tips I would give anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business are:

  1. Have patience. It takes time to get your name out there, and if you are not working at it each day, you can fall behind so quickly.
  2. If your business is online, take a few classes on SEO. This will help your business get to where it needs to be.
  3. Enjoy what you do. If you force it, it won’t come. If you love your work, you will look forward to working every day!
