What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a creative management firm that helps authors, speakers, and entrepreneurs grow their businesses by leveraging paid speaking and media. I generally begin as a coach or consultant and sometimes take on full management of my clients or some aspect of their business.
Tell us about yourself
I love working with smart, talented people. I have worked in the world of publishing and paid speakers my entire career, and I wanted to create a firm where I could manage a diverse group in all aspects of their business. Being able to champion inclusivity and add more voices to all sectors, functions, and industries, not just in HR and DEI, is what gives my work purpose and fuels my passion for making the world a better and more inclusive place for everyone.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting the business off the ground and stepping away from larger firms with more access to talent was my biggest step so far, and ending this year as my highest grossing ever will be an incredible reward.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The isolation or lack of motivation to do the more mundane parts of the business, or feeling like you should always be working on the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Explore your passions and interests through writing or some medium.
- Understand what fuels you and figure out where you can apply that in a meaningful and profitable way.
- Figure out a problem to solve and provide an efficient solution.
