What's your business, and who are your customers?
Purse Strings gives women looking for financial advice to vetted professionals who serve the female market.
Tell us about yourself
As a consultant in the financial industry, I could see how the industry was overlooking a powerful female market. Their products and services did not relate to the needs of women. Professionals were trained to sell products and move on. I knew this was NOT how women made purchases. So, I commissioned a researcher and asked thousands of women what they wanted from their financial professionals. I learned that women are a 23-Trillion dollar underserved market, and they wanted a go-to location to learn about finances and ask questions and a vetted list of professionals who understood what women wanted and needed from their financial professionals - so that's what we built! And we called it Purse Strings!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is building a solution to a problem that will help all women be financially fearless. It's a fully working model that helps women every day.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Nothing happens overnight. Being a business owner has many ups and many downs - but if you really have a passion, a mission, and clarity in where you want to go, it drives you to keep going every day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do your due diligence to see if it is solving a problem your customer will pay for.
- Start with a basic model and keep testing and revising as you learn and grow.
- Make sure it's something you believe in and have passion for because that's what gets you through the most difficult days.
