Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ronald Banks, Founder of Banks Media, LLC, located in Milwaukee, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a speaker, writer, and coach helping people from all walks of life experience fuller and more fruitful lives with less clutter and more clarity. I offer resources, content, and coaching around simple living (minimalism), habits, mindset, relationships, and money.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been interested in helping people change the way they think, so they can change how they live. As a poet, my unique style of presenting, creative language, and bold expressions have inspired and encouraged people for years. However, I wanted this to be bigger than just poetry, so I pursued speaking, content creating, and coaching. My message of "Less Clutter, More Clarity" across all aspects of life has reached more than 9 million people on YouTube alone. In addition to creating content for the Ronald L Banks YouTube channel and podcast. I work online with clients from all over the world, helping them transform their lives from clutter to clarity using tools such as minimalism, mindfulness, journaling, reflections, and practical life guidance as a whole.

What motivates me every day is witnessing the transformations within my clients, viewers, and listeners. The confidence and joy for life radiating from them once they conquer their clutter is the fuel that keeps me going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The fact that I can run a business, doing something I am passionate about without it consuming my entire life. Maintaining a balance between business, family, marriage, and fellowship has been the key.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Navigating the ups and downs of business and the fear of failure as a business owner. Another challenge is that sometimes our fears can cause us to fall victim to negative thought patterns or feelings of imposter syndrome. What helps me navigate this is remembering that fear = false evidence appearing real, and failure is nothing less than fertilizer for growth.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Doubt your doubts. Whenever you start to question yourself or whether or not what you have to offer is "enough." You have to remember that there is a difference between a valid doubt or concern and using doubt as an excuse not to try. Far too often, aspiring business owners give up before trying, and if someone reading this feels that way, my encouragement is to doubt the doubts that are trying to keep stuck living an unfulfilled life. You are capable of more than you give yourself credit for.
  2. Don't compare your journey to someone else's finish line. In both business and life, it's common to feel like you're behind in life. Maybe you feel like you're not where you want to be or where you think you should be. I get it! However, I want to challenge that perspective because rather than looking at what you don't have yet, look at how far you've come to get to where you are today. The thing to remember is that you have to run your race at your own pace. Worrying about where others are on their journey will only distract you from reaching your potential.
  3. Stay true to yourself. Create something that you believe in and that represents your values.
