Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Muzique Broadnax, Owner of Balenchino Clinic, located in Tempe, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a medical massage clinic. I specialize in neuromuscular rehabilitation, lymphatic drainage, repetitive stress injury, and general health and wellness when it comes to the musculature of the body. My customers range from teenage athletes all the way up to geriatrics and prenatal customers. I would say the age range is 16 to 75. I am also an in-home therapist. I travel all over the valley, people's homes in hotels, as well as events.

Tell us about yourself

I have been practicing the art of massage therapy for 15 years. I started my career in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and have worked myself through the spa, medical industry, and sports genres of massage therapy. I started doing massage therapy because I am a single mother and wanted to help people but still have the freedom to make my schedule and travel around the world doing so. My motivation clearly comes from the results of the success of my application when applied to my customers. Their experience from start to finish, watching that transformation, is what allows me to keep being the best at what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say my biggest accomplishment is mastering the Art of a five-star customer experience. From appointment taking to guiding the customer into the office, intake, applying the massage therapy, and then following up afterward. That process has been my biggest accomplishment next to my education and expanding my knowledge in the field.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I'd say one of the hardest things is taking direct criticism from your customer base. Allowing the process of becoming a better practitioner can sometimes be painful and disheartening, but a clear reflection of what you are projecting out into the world. I would say that is first in a close second would be to master the art of consistency, providing a consistently amazing experience each and every time the customer visits or revisits your clinic.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Study your competitor or competition. See what makes them great or see what breaks them.
  2. Spend time building your systems in place to build your pipeline and set up automatic emails in marketing and online scheduling so that you will save time.
  3. Always stay humble and connected to your customer base. Really establish a relationship with your clientele to learn how to better serve them in your industry.
