Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Logan Cohen, founder of Balanced Man Plan, located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I created an online coaching curriculum for people who need emotional and/or mental health support but are not yet ready to see a practitioner. These coaching plans encourage and teach clients how to use natural solutions to reinforce their mental and physical health and empower themselves and their loved ones.

Tell us about yourself

I am a licensed therapist and clean-cut entrepreneur these days, but I didn't start my life on this track. I had experiences with childhood abuse as a young boy. As a result, I was a rough kid who tended to get in trouble exhibiting high-risk behavior. This continued through high school and completion of my undergraduate degree, where the behavior developed into a significant addiction issue.

In my early 20s, I spent several years working with at-risk youth in the Appalachian Mountains as a young adult and turned my own life around. It was at that time that I fell in love with counseling psychology. Roughly five years ago, I got news that several of my childhood friends died due to their continued high-risk behavior and refusal to reach out for needed help. In response to this news, I created the online coaching curriculum known as the "Balanced Man Plan" to support those with mental health difficulties that are not yet ready to seek help from a professional, like my old friends before they died.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

At the end of the day, I believe being able to provide for your family solely from entrepreneurial effort is QUITE the accomplishment! I am personally proud that each of my businesses focuses on serving and empowering marginalized populations. I'm also proud of a book I just published in December 2021 called "How to (Hu)Man Up in Modern Society: Heal Yourself & Save the World."

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think the hardest thing to do is ignore the fear during times of uncertainty and just keep going.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you have your finances in order and don't leave the day job out of excitement. The bottom line needs to make sense.
  2. If you are starting a business, make sure you are passionate about the work. This will take consistent time and effort, so if you don't like it already, it will NOT be fun.
  3. Consistency is key. Don't quit prematurely because then you will be right back at the beginning. Remember why you started and remind yourself as frequently as needed. Besides, you might be CLOSE to that inflection point of "making it" but just can't yet see the blessings coming your way.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you are thinking about starting a business and believe you have an important problem to solve, then you SHOULD! So many people are sleeping on themselves while people with half their talent are out there making moves. We all need YOU to take your gifts to shine out there. ⭐️
