Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Pankow, Founder of Balance. Harmony. Flow. LLC., located in Morristown, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Balance. Harmony. Flow., LLC is a private health and wellness business. My practice entails hands-on Jin Shin Jyutsu® sessions in combination with Breathwork and Self-Care guidance. Often referred to as acupuncture without the needles, Jin Shin Jyutsu® has been shown to relieve pain, alleviate acute and chronic conditions, eliminate stress and fatigue, promote optimal immune function, improve sleep and digestion, and create emotional equilibrium, among other health and wellness benefits. In addition to gaining relief from acute and chronic physical concerns, clients experience greater mental clarity and emotional equilibrium that can facilitate a personal transformation and an empowered approach to their own health and well-being. I am also a certified Jin Shin Jyutsu® Self-Care Instructor and provide topical and self-care workshops designed for professionals, businesses, schools, hospitals, and various interest groups.

Some areas of specific interest and the type of projects I often see in my clients include: emotional balance and equilibrium family harmony and wellness lifestyle balance (Anxiety, Fatigue, Stress, and Sleep Disharmony), pain management & injury recovery, pre and post-op recovery, and undiagnosed/misdiagnosed/hard to treat health projects.

Tell us about yourself

I've trained extensively in the art, became a professional practitioner and a certified Self-Care Instructor, and began working with family and friends. I was also working on myself using Jin Shin Jyutsu self-care sequences and personally experienced its profound effects. In late 2019 and early 2020, I began to look for office space with the intention of starting my business. When the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, my plans were put on hold for a year but recognizing a significant need for the work, I opened an office as soon as I was able. I seem to have a knack for it … meaning those I worked with experience positive outcomes. That motivates me each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I launched and built a hands-on energy medicine practice during a pandemic.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Building a hands-on energy medicine practice during a pandemic.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a burning passion for what you do. Yes, it is a cliche, but it fuels discipline, commitment, focus, and resilience.
  2. Be of service. Be clear about how your business serves others and double down on that.
  3. Collaborate with others, especially those who may even be your competitors. Break free of scarcity consciousness.
