What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a kitchen confidence coach and owner of Balaboosta's Secret, where I empower busy parents with the skills needed to create stress-free, memorable weeknight meals done with speed, ease, yum, and fun. Whether you're a beginner cook or a well-seasoned pro, I've got your back.

Tell us about yourself

My cooking skills were so bad my own family banned me from cooking when I was a teen. Happily, my skills have dramatically improved since then. I now have over 1000 cookbooks, am a graduate of Rouxbe Cooking School and the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, and have countless cooking courses from the International Culinary Center and Natural Gourmet Institute under my belt. I'm a lawyer by profession, but when my kids' friends were at our house on playdates and sleepovers, they would say, "my mom doesn't cook like this, and we never have so much fun at the dinner table." Out of the mouth of babes, my new career was born. I'm passionate about the importance of family mealtime and making meaningful memories through weeknight meals.

It's time for busy parents to ditch the stress and their "what's for dinner demons" and start enjoying this precious time that's meant to be celebrated. Family meals don't have to be complex and time-consuming in order to be memorable and delicious. Empowering busy parents with the skills to meal plan/prep/cook and serve dinners with laughter and great conversations is a key factor in helping them achieve their best-balanced life. It starts at dinnertime.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Hearing and seeing the joy in parents when their dinner time stress dissolves as they reclaim their dream of what they wanted their family life to look, feel and taste like.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Staying current on all the technical, software, marketing, and social media skills needed run a business is a critical, demanding, and ever-evolving process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Small steps can lead to big accomplishments.
  2. Confidence and skills grow with a willingness to learn. Don't be afraid to seek out advice. It is not a sign of weakness. Just because you work solo doesn't mean you are alone.
  3. Keep your focus, stay organized, set your priorities, and maintain balance in your life. Never forget your smile.
