Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sofia Toufa, Co-Founder of badbitchtea., located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Who do we think we are?! badbitchtea. is a new Los Angeles tea brand founded by myself and Natalie Brede in 2021. With a shared vision of disrupting the existing market with a premium, straightforward product, we designed a full range of holistic blends from organic, ethically sourced botanicals and spices from gardens across Thailand, Eastern China, Hunan, Peru, Quebec, Egypt, and Japan. Rooted in quality, sustainability, wellness, and innovation, badbitchtea. offers a diverse selection of traditional and contemporary flavor profiles, packed with natural antioxidants from organic blends, including loose-leaf Green Tea and Jasmine to Masala Chaga Chai, vibrant micro-milled Hibiscus, and Hojicha Maca.

Tell us about yourself

As a female-owned and operated label, badbitchtea. celebrates and advocates for women, aiming to empower and inspire through their brands and platforms. At their core, our message is simple: Remember who you are — you're a bad bitch. We created the brand during the pandemic. In a way, it was empowering us during a time when so much was not in our control.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Every single customer is a cause for celebration. We have had the opportunity to do a pop-up event serving tea cocktails and selling our tea at The Good Wolf in the arts district in Las Vegas, which was very fun and a great success.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The work is never over, and you have to be ok working hours on end, hitting speed bumps, making mistakes, and sometimes losing money in the process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something that excites you and that you yourself would be interested in!
  2. Ask for help,
  3. And pick your partners carefully and wisely.
