Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Scott Runyon, Owner of Backcountry Physical Therapy, located in Colorado Springs, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Backcountry Physical Therapy was created with those who want better for themselves in mind. The healthcare industry is heavily flawed and doesn't do enough to help those who want to stay healthy. Athletes that want to ski at their best level, hike further, and lift weights well into old age are the ideal clients for our services.

Tell us about yourself

I've seen firsthand how poorly people are treated in the traditional insurance-based healthcare model. There is so much more that can be done. Improving the health of our population, one individual at a time will raise the quality of life for everyone.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I love being able to help people who feel hopeless in their search for an answer to physical limitations. To see patients with years of pain suddenly feel great again is a feeling I can't describe.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There's a constant feeling of wanting to help everyone. As a business owner, you have to know that sometimes people will choose other options or make a bad choice in doing absolutely nothing to help themselves. You need to give everybody the most information you can to make a smart choice and then hope that they make that one.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it now. Don't wait for the "right time."
  2. Be prepared to be doubted.
  3. Find a coach who has done what you are hoping to accomplish.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It's amazing to have the opportunity to serve my community and work with the type of client or patient that I want to on a daily basis. I'm so blessed to have this be my chosen path.
