Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Erin Moore, Founder of Baby Feeding Coach, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Baby Feeding Coach. I help new parents navigate the difficult world of feeding their baby - whether it is breastfeeding, formula feeding, starting solids, or all of the above. I work with both new and experienced parents throughout their baby's first year.

Tell us about yourself

I am a pediatric nurse practitioner and certified lactation counselor. I always believed "fed is best," but I struggled with breastfeeding issues throughout my son's first year. When it came to navigating our feeding issues and needing to use formula, I felt a lot of guilt. Our lives got infinitely better once we added formula. I decided to start my own business because I want to help alleviate some of the guilt, shame, and stigma against using baby formula, whether out of necessity or choice. I truly believe that parents can choose a method of feeding that works best for their family.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is being able to virtually help hundreds of parents throughout the United States reach their feeding goals and feel more confident in baby feeding.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think about my business constantly, and there is always more work to be done. It is very different from going to a clinic, seeing patients all day, and then coming home.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you have a passion and there is a need, go for it, even if it is hard or non-traditional. Find your niche and stick with it.
  2. Find your strengths and weaknesses as a business owner. If there is a role you are not comfortable in, find help.
  3. Sales and marketing are much harder than expected. Take courses, hire a coach, and find support.
