Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in advertising services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Giselle Aguiar, Founder of AZ Social Media Wiz, located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

AZ Social Media Wiz LLC -- I'm a digital marketing consultant, SEO copywriter, WordPress trainer, and social media coach. Most small business owners are overwhelmed and clueless when it comes to digital marketing. From social media to website search engine optimization (SEO), I help them take their businesses to the next level.

Tell us about yourself

Back in the summer of 2011, I gave a presentation to a writers' group on blogging and Twitter. At the end, I was looking at a room full of deer in the headlights. I had gone right over their heads. That showed me that there was a need to teach and coach small business owners how social media, content, and digital marketing works. I truly enjoy helping small business owners. I'll never forget one gal who was sitting in the first row at a live, in-person workshop. As how I was explaining how everything works together, her face lit up as she experienced an "ah-ha" moment. She exclaimed, "I get it now!" My joy is seeing small businesses succeed.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was being asked to be a mentor for the Arizona Commerce Authority's Digital Marketing Academy. I've been sharing my expertise with small business owners and doing 1:1 mentoring since the Academy's inception in March 2020. We're in our 10th cohort.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Self-discipline -- especially since I work from home and am a "solopreneur." I am easily distracted. When I'm working on a project, I have to shut everything off -- email, phone, and notifications.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. What is your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)? What makes you different from everyone else who does what you do?
  2. Clearly define your target market and create personas.
  3. Do your research. Get to know your target audience. Where do they hang out online, what devices do they prefer (mobile or desktop), and what is their pain point, problem, or need that you will resolve or alleviate?
