Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aypril Porter, founder of Tapestry Human Design Life Coaching, located in Olympia, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Tapestry Human Design Life Coaching supports women who are approaching or are beyond forty and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of their lives. They are burned out (or have been) and are going through the motions, trying to keep up with life, but they feel like they're here for a bigger purpose and want to understand what that is. They may or may not be raising a family and navigating who they are as those roles shift and change over time.

Tell us about yourself

I started as a worried mom who was just trying to find answers for her infant child with significant food sensitivities, which grew into a passion for learning about holistic health and a career as a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Over time, I added Holistic Life Coaching and Quantum Human Design to my practice.

I had found myself at the age of 32 in total burnout with two small children and had to begin searching for answers for myself and how I'd ended up there. What I learned through nutrition and lifestyle supports helped, but it wasn't until I learned about my Human Design chart and that I was a 5/2 Projector that I really allowed myself to embrace the truth of who I am. Once I could objectively see how I am designed to work differently than 80% of the population, I began to change how I worked and rested and, in retrospect, understood why my life took the various twists and turned it had. Now I help other women understand that they don't have to have a life or health crisis in living their truth and embracing their authentic selves. I use a combination of life coaching, human design, and wellness support to guide women to tell a more empowering story for their life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

To remember to stop and play. I enjoy my work so much that I can get lost in it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Set a schedule and show up. Even if you don't have clients yet, show up and work on things that will help you once you're busy or work on reaching potential clients.
  2. Hire a good coach that you align with. Being a business owner will bring up your old stories around value, self-worth, authenticity, and visibility, and you'll need to work through them to keep moving forward.
  3. Align with your intuition and trust yourself.
