Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in floristry, but not sure what to expect? Then check out our interview with the florist, Dean Sharpe, owner of Dean Sharpe's Floral Studio, in lovely Stafford, United Kingdom.

Tell us about yourself and your journey to where you are today...

Studio-based florists, we have many customers, from people ordering gift bouquets to large wedding decor.

What motivates you each day?

I’ve always had an interest in flowers and being creative. It took a lot for me to go back into education and do my level 2&3 in floristry. It’s definitely not an easy rd starting your own business, and it’s taken a long time to build a good customer base, but it’s something I love doing, so I always keep pushing myself and the business. Each year you achieve a little bit more and keep growing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think for me, it was starting something from scratch and building a brand. Also won a bronze & silver-gilt medal at the Chelsea flower show.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Never taking a break from it even when I’m away, I will reply to emails, etc., as it’s your business, so it’s hard to switch off.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to launch, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research of other local businesses and stand out with what you offer.
  2. It doesn’t happen overnight and don’t undersell yourself. You don’t need loads of money to start a business and keep your branding clear.
  3. Don’t over-complicate the information you put out.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Good Quality work, reviews, word of mouth will help build your brand/business.
